Interview on Teaching and Leading
Where did you go to school? I attended Elementary, Middle and High School in East Aurora, New York. I attended Baldwin-Wallace College and graduated in 2008.
How many years have you been teaching? This is my fourth year of teaching.
Why or how did you choose to come to Vermilion? I chose to come to Vermilion after interviewing with Mrs. Riddle at a job fair that I attended while I was student teaching. Shortly after, I interviewed at Sailorway and was offered a teaching position as an intervention specialist for 7th grade. I was excited about becoming part of a wonderful school and community and about my teaching position in both an inclusion and small group setting.
What do you like most about the Vermilion Local School District? I love the community and the many activities that it has to offer. In many ways, it reminds me of the small town community and school district that I grew up in outside of Buffalo, NY.
Give some examples of things you believe are important in teaching. I believe that it is important to make all students feel important and valued. Everyone has important ideas, beliefs and experiences that they can share with each other.
What do you think is the most important thing you offer Vermilion students? I try my best to instill a good work ethic in my students. I think that it is important they learn to value hard work and learn to always try their best.
Describe some important influences in your life. My parents, teachers and coaches have been an incredibly important influence throughout my life. My Mom is a Physical Education teacher and my Dad works as the Executive Director of a Boys and Girls Club. Both of my parents have taught me how important it is to value children and to help them achieve success. They have been wonderful role models as I have started my teaching career.
Do you have any interests outside of your job? Outside of school I enjoy playing sports and spending time with my family and friends. During the school year, I am a track coach for the Sailors and I still enjoy playing soccer. During the summer, I work at a summer camp that I attended as a child.
